Adult literacy transforms lives and communities
Literacy is one of the most critical impacts on poverty, health, race and gender equality. When adults are enabled to read, write, do basic math, and use computers, they have the tools needed to successfully negotiate our world. Literacy is a social justice issue itself with a long history and a powerful impact on many critical movements that align with values of empowerment, community solidarity, and economic security. Literacy is transformational in lifting people out of poverty, lowering health care costs, attaining consistent and sustainable employment, and being able to realize dreams.
