Our Mission

All Saints Literacy Center enables adult learners to meet the challenges of today by improving their reading, writing, math and English speaking skills. Qualified tutors provide an individualized learning plan tailored to the goals and objectives of the learner in a welcoming environment.

Our Roots & Legacy

All Saints Literacy Center was founded out of the rich tradition of the Adrian Dominican Sisters, whose early sponsorship laid the groundwork for our mission. In July 2015, recognizing the need for adult literacy services in Southwest Detroit, Sister Mary Hemmen, OP, and Roger Frank established ASLC, opening its doors to the community. While we have since transitioned to an independent nonprofit organization, our history remains deeply rooted in the values of education and service championed by the Sisters. Since our founding, ASLC has welcomed more than 500 learners and partnered with over 200 volunteer tutors.

As a dedicated member of the Adrian Dominican Sisters, Sister Mary remained a champion for adult literacy until her passing in 2018. We remember her as a pragmatic, remarkable gem and a faithful servant, and we are deeply honored to carry her vision forward.

Sister Anneliese Sinnott, OP, also a sister of the Adrian Dominicans, was equally instrumental in shaping the center. Until her passing in March 2026, she served as an active board member, a compassionate tutor, and a vital link to our founding congregation. We are profoundly grateful for the significant role she played in strengthening ASLC and deepening our mission.
