I’ve been a volunteer tutor for All Saints Literacy for the past two years and find it rewarding in every way. All Saints is a well-run organization with a valuable mission and fantastic staff to make that vision a reality. For the first year, my learner and I met at the building in Detroit, but now our weekly sessions have shifted to Zoom format. The change has been smooth, flexible, and allows a further level of personal sharing from the comfort of our homes. My student’s commitment and resilience are outstanding and helping to build her self-confidence in reading, conversation, and other basic skills is fulfilling. Teaching is always a two-way process so, through my student, I’ve learned a lot about their culture too.
